by Audrey & Grace is part of a committed group of businesses in Australia, supporting an ethical fashion industry. We are enjoying our second year of accreditation with Ethical Clothing Australia and would like to share with you a little more about the program and what Ethical Clothing Australia Week is all about. As part of Ethical Clothing Australia Week 2024, by Audrey and Grace will be participating in a pop up shop and a Meet the Maker event in Emerald, where you can purchase some beautiful Australian made women's clothing and meet the people who made them.
by Audrey & Grace, along with Meg Smith Makes and Spiritus Eco Clothing, will be holding a Meet the Maker event at the Mindful Heart Space on October 12th from 3pm till 5pm. This will be a great opportunity to meet the makers behind these labels and to have a look at the beautiful creations. There will be an opportunity to try on designs and have styling sessions with the designers.

Ethical Clothing Australia Week recognises the people and businesses that make textile, clothing and footwear (TCF) products in Australia. Currently there are almost 500,000 workers in the TCF industry in Australia, with most employed as garment workers in manufacturing. 77% identify as women, with many from migrant or refugee backgrounds with English as an additional language. At Ethical Clothing Australia, we help workers access the resources and information they need and empower them to advocate for their rights under Australian workplace law.
The official program will run from 7-13 October with a calendar of in-person and online events hosted by Ethical Clothing Australia and their community of accredited businesses. Ethical Clothing Australia will also host a series of launch events for the industry in Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland. Whether you want to learn more about how clothes are made ethically or meet the local manufacturing community – Ethical Clothing Australia Week is an opportunity to celebrate the work that goes into every ethically made garment.
While celebration is important, this week also aims to increase consumer and business knowledge of the complexities of the Australian TCF industry. Importantly, it highlights how Ethical Clothing Australia’s accreditation program is working to eradicate worker exploitation in the local industry.
For nearly 25 years, Ethical Clothing Australia has been upholding the rights of workers and championing transparency in the local TCF industry through their accreditation program. For a business to become accredited and gain access to the Ethical Clothing Australia trademark, they must be compliant with all aspects of the TCFAI Award and other relevant workplace laws. Businesses must complete a yearly audit by the Textile, Clothing and Footwear Union, that works collaboratively with businesses all over the country to ensure the protection of local workers.
